Butter Thieves Convicted for Series of Thefts in Stockholm

Two men have been convicted in Stockholm district court for a series of thefts targeting grocery stores in the city. The duo, referred to as ‘butter thieves,’ primarily focused on stealing large quantities of butter. According to the court, the men committed a total of 19 thefts between May and August this year, with some incidents caught on surveillance cameras.

The stolen goods, which overwhelmingly consisted of butter, were valued at over 30,000 SEK. The men reportedly targeted various stores, including several in the city center, choosing butter due to its resell value on the black market.

The court sentenced the men to respective prison terms of one year and eight months and one year and six months for their crimes. In issuing the sentence, the court emphasized the organized nature of the thefts and the men’s repeated attempts to evade capture.

The case marks a significant move by local authorities to crack down on organized retail theft, which has been on the rise in recent months.
