New Law Allows Body Cameras for SL Inspectors

A new judicial decision has permitted SL ticket inspectors to carry body cameras. The ruling aimed to provide additional safety for inspectors who often face difficult situations in their line of work. Due to previous incidents and continuous threats, this measure has been discussed for some time. The implementation of body cameras is expected to detour conflicts and ensure an extra layer of security, both for the inspectors and the public.

A pilot program was initially carried out to assess the impact and effectiveness of the cameras. The results showed a decrease in aggressive encounters and an increase in successful ticket verification and enforcement.

Proponents of the new law argue that it promotes transparency and accountability, while opponents express concerns regarding privacy. However, clear guidelines are being set to ensure that the cameras are used appropriately and recordings are stored in compliance with data protection regulations.

The Stockholm Lokaltrafik (SL) stated that they are committed to maintaining public trust as they roll out the new system. Training sessions for inspectors on how to operate the cameras and handle data responsibly are underway.

This development marks a significant change in the way fare inspectors conduct their duties and interact with the community.
