A new exhibition at Konstfack is turning the spotlight on an unusual material: mud from the Årstafältet area in Stockholm. The exhibition explores the potential transformations of this often-overlooked substance into pieces of art. With environmental changes constantly altering the landscape, artists and architects are seeking to find beauty and sustainability in materials that are naturally available. This specific exhibition aims to challenge perceptions and show that even the most ordinary materials can offer immense creative possibilities.
Artist Lina Johansson shared her thoughts on working with the mud: ‘It connects us to the earth and to the ongoing changes in our environment. By using it in our art, we’re acknowledging its significance and embracing its raw beauty.’ The mud from Årstafältet provides a direct connection to the local geography, underscoring the importance of using regional materials and reducing the ecological footprint of art practices.
The organizers have expressed hope that visitors will leave with a renewed appreciation not only for art but also for the natural materials that are so often underappreciated in urban environments.
