Jorma, 72, has been stuck in his apartment for weeks due to a broken elevator. The malfunction leaves him unable to leave his home since he cannot take the stairs. For Jorma, who lives on a high floor, the elevator is essential for mobility.
As time drags on without a repair, his frustration grows. “It feels like I’m a prisoner in my own home,” he says.
Despite multiple calls to the property management company, the issue remains unresolved. Neighbors are also becoming increasingly concerned about Jorma’s isolation and lack of access to the outside world. “We are worried about him not being able to go out and get groceries or even enjoy a simple walk,” one of the neighbors shares.
The community is rallying to pressure the management to expedite the repair or provide temporary assistance for Jorma in the meantime. The company has stated they are working on the issue but have not provided a timeline for when the elevator will be operational again.
In the meantime, Jorma remains trapped, relying on the kindness of neighbors and friends to maintain his day-to-day needs as he waits for a return to normalcy.
