A resident of Väsby has been acquitted after the postal service discovered a package containing drugs. The package, which was on its way from the Netherlands, was intercepted by customs officials. The recipient was charged with attempted procurement of narcotics, but the court found that there was insufficient evidence to prove that the individual had ordered the package or was aware of its contents.
The court ruling highlighted that the package was addressed with only a first name to a shared mailbox, and there were no fingerprints or other forensic evidence linking the recipient directly to the package.
The prosecution argued that the pattern of previous packages pointed to the accused’s involvement, but the defense successfully challenged the reliability of such a connection without direct evidence.
In recent years, there has been an increase in narcotics being shipped through postal services, with customs and postal staff working more closely to combat this issue.
