In a recent decision that has sparked significant debate, Sundbyberg Municipality has approved the creation of new walking-speed streets. These areas are designed to prioritize pedestrians, allowing vehicles but at significantly reduced speeds to ensure safety and encourage a pedestrian-friendly environment.
The Moderate Party has expressed strong opposition to this move, arguing it could lead to increased traffic congestion and inconvenience for drivers in the city. Party representative Anna Johansson stated, “We understand the need for pedestrian-friendly spaces, but not at the cost of creating chaos on our roads.”
Supporters of the decision, however, believe that these changes will enhance the quality of life in Sundbyberg, providing safer and more accessible spaces for residents and visitors. “It’s about creating a balance between different modes of transport and enhancing urban life,” said Green Party member Lars Svensson.
Implementation of these streets is set to begin this spring, with the first areas affected in the central parts of Sundbyberg.
