Hornsgatan, a central street in Stockholm, will be transformed into a pedestrian zone for four weekends this summer. This initiative aims to provide more space for walking, dining, and shopping activities. The closure to vehicular traffic will start in mid-July and continue throughout August, spanning four specific weekends.
Local businesses have shown support for the plan, anticipating increased foot traffic and customer engagement during these car-free weekends. City officials believe the move will enhance the urban environment and improve public well-being by reducing noise and emissions in the area.
The traffic closures will occur on July 15-16, July 22-23, August 5-6, and August 12-13. During these periods, the street will be exclusively open to pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport. The city council is hopeful that this trial will gather enough positive feedback to make it a recurring event during the summer months.
