The municipal government of Stockholm has announced stricter regulations for companies responsible for snow removal, in response to a wave of complaints from residents frustrated by poor service during recent snowfalls. The new measures include more frequent inspections and higher penalties for non-compliance to ensure streets are cleared promptly and effectively.
City officials highlighted that the changes aim to improve the efficiency and safety of snow removal operations across the city. The decision follows incidents where insufficient snow clearance resulted in traffic disruptions and safety hazards for pedestrians.
‘We understand the frustration of our residents,’ said Emma Berglund, Head of Infrastructure Services. ‘Our priority is to ensure that our streets are safe and accessible at all times, especially during the winter months.’
The new guidelines also mandate that all snow removal contractors use GPS tracking systems to monitor and report on their operations in real-time. This technological upgrade will allow city authorities to track progress and address any issues quickly.
Residents have welcomed the new regulations, hoping they will lead to faster and more reliable snow clearance in the coming winter season.
