Watch Out! Most Walk in the Wrong Direction in Stockholm

A new study revealed that nine out of ten pedestrians in Stockholm walk on the wrong side of the path. This surprising statistic has raised concerns about safety and efficiency in pedestrian traffic management. The city authorities have urged people to be more aware of their surroundings and follow the recommended walking directions to prevent accidents and improve the flow.

In an interview with Mitti, a local news outlet, transportation expert Anna Karlsson explained, “Following the designated side is not just about rules, it’s about safety and ensuring everyone can move smoothly, especially during peak hours.”

The study also highlighted that the problem was more severe in areas with high foot traffic, such as major shopping streets and public transport hubs. Karlsson further noted, “In busy areas, walking on the wrong side can lead to unnecessary congestion and increase the risk of bumping into others, which in turn causes delays.”

Authorities are considering implementing more signage and public awareness campaigns to address this issue. They believe that with better guidelines and increased public cooperation, Stockholm can set an example in managing pedestrian traffic effectively.
