Over the weekend, Norrmalmstorg in Stockholm and more than thirty locations across the country have been the scene of demonstrations against the Swedish government’s controversial plan to deport teenagers.
Hundreds of Stockholm residents, supported by several youths facing deportation, despite the temporary suspension of these actions, joined the protest.
Shahrdad Sherbabaki, a young man under threat of being deported to Iran, stated: ‘It’s amazing to see so many people supporting us. It gives us hope.’
The demonstrations highlighted the growing public discontent with this measure, which mainly affects young people who have grown up and integrated into Swedish society.
