Young politician Axel Conradi, 27, wants to become the new leader of the Moderate Party in the Stockholm region. His goal is to give the party a warmer, more people-centred image.
“I think the Moderates can sometimes come across as a little cold and distant. I want to change that,” Conradi told SVT Nyheter.
Conradi, who currently serves as vice-chair of the Moderate group on the regional council, believes the most pressing issues for the region are healthcare and housing. He wants the party to work more actively to reduce waiting times in healthcare and to boost the construction of affordable homes.
“The people of Stockholm deserve fast and efficient healthcare, and everyone should be able to afford to live here,” he said.
The party’s current regional leader, Anna Starbrink, has announced she will be stepping down, opening the door for new candidates such as Conradi to put themselves forward for the leadership.
Conradi also stressed the importance of listening to residents and making politics more accessible to everyone. “Politics shouldn’t be something that only a handful of people care about. I want to involve more people in the political process,” he concluded.
