The combustion-engine buses currently operating in the municipality of Tyresö, on the outskirts of Stockholm, are running out of time. Finnish company VR, which recently took over bus lines in the area, confirmed on Monday its intention to renew the entire fleet by replacing diesel vehicles with electric buses.
The announcement represents a significant step toward the electrification of public transport in the region, in line with the emissions reduction targets pursued by both local authorities and mobility companies operating in Sweden.
VR, best known for its activity in the railway sector in Finland, has expanded its presence in the Scandinavian road transport market and sees Tyresö as an opportunity to consolidate its commitment to more sustainable solutions.
