Maja Wikland, from Handen, is preparing to take part in Sweden’s national vocational training championship — known as Yrkes-SM — in the car lacquering category. What makes her story particularly remarkable is the context in which she arrives at this competition: barely a year after a violent motorcycle accident that left her with considerable physical after-effects. Despite having only one fully functional arm, Maja has not given up on her passion or her professional career.
Her determination to press forward and face a high-level competition under these circumstances makes her a true example of resilience within Sweden’s vocational training world. The Yrkes-SM brings together young students and professionals from various trades to demonstrate their technical skills in a nationally competitive format.
