An accident that occurred on Thursday morning inside the Södra Länken tunnel, during peak rush hour traffic, triggered the complete closure of all access points leading toward the E4 and E20 motorways. The disruption caused significant congestion and severely impacted traffic flow across the Swedish capital.
Traffic authorities shut down access to the tunnel as a safety measure while the incident was being managed. The impact on mobility was considerable, as Södra Länken is one of the busiest road arteries in the Stockholm metropolitan area, particularly during the morning commute.
The tunnel was eventually reopened to traffic once the situation was resolved, although the queues and accumulated delays continued to affect drivers for some time after the reopening.
