Exactly one hundred years have passed since the first electric trains began running along the line connecting Stockholm and Gothenburg, and this Saturday a historic convoy retraced that same route to commemorate the landmark anniversary.
The arrival of the centenary train at Stockholm Central Station drew a large crowd of railway enthusiasts, among them Olle Johansson, who waited with excitement on platform 12. “The expectations are enormous,” said the railway enthusiast as he awaited the arrival of the historic locomotive.
The event marks a defining milestone in Swedish transport history: the electrification of one of the country’s most important routes, which represented a true revolution in mobility between Sweden’s two largest cities and laid the foundations for the modern national railway system.
