A decade of construction and renovations has brought more than new walls and refurbished shops: the popular shopping centre long known as Mörby centrum has officially changed its name. The signs welcoming visitors to the mall now display its new identity — Danderyd Centrum.
Not everything is changing, however. The metro station serving the centre will retain its original name, Mörby centrum, a decision backed by both the public transport authority SL and the municipality of Danderyd.
The rebrand has not gone unnoticed among residents and regular visitors. Jan Skagelund, a passerby who came across the new signage, admitted the change feels somewhat strange. “I suppose it signals a touch of luxury,” he remarked with a hint of irony.
The new name aims to align the shopping centre’s identity with the municipality in which it is located — Danderyd, one of the most affluent areas in the greater Stockholm region. For some, that is precisely the message the rebrand is intended to project.
