The problems on Stockholm’s red metro line have no end in sight. Delays are persisting, and SL has openly acknowledged that there is no forecast for when normal service will be restored. “We have no estimate of when the problem will be resolved,” said Sophie Gunnarsson, SL’s communications spokesperson, who urged commuters to leave home with enough time to spare to avoid arriving late at their destinations.
While passengers continue to suffer the daily consequences, the public transport operator is also focusing on what happened last Saturday, when a serious incident brought the line to a standstill for hours and forced an evacuation that lasted longer than usual. SL has launched an internal review to analyse how the situation was managed and to determine what factors contributed to the process taking so long.
The combination of ongoing delays and the current investigation reflects the difficulties facing the infrastructure of one of the busiest lines on the Swedish capital’s metro network.
