The nightmare for those who park where they shouldn’t could be closer than they imagine. Stockholm City Hall is currently testing vehicles equipped with camera systems capable of scanning more than 1,000 cars per hour, with the aim of identifying those parked illegally.
This technology, which acts as a visual aid for parking enforcement officers, makes it possible to cover large areas of the city in a very short time — something that would be impossible for an inspector on foot. The equipped vehicles drive through the streets automatically recording license plates and the position of each car to identify potential violations.
If the system passes the testing phase, it could represent a substantial change in the way Stockholm manages urban parking control, increasing both efficiency and the ability to detect violations across the city.
