For eight years, Nada Yussuf and Sara Mecconen have kept their podcast Galdem A Talk alive, establishing themselves as prominent voices in the Järva neighborhood of Stockholm. Now, these two content creators are taking a new step and sharing their experience with the next generation: they are running workshops for young women at Framtidens hus, a community center located in Rinkeby, where they teach them how to produce and launch their own podcast.
The initiative stems from a shared conviction: the representation of young women who grow up in Sweden’s suburbs remains scarce in the media, and that has real consequences for how they perceive themselves and the opportunities they believe are within their reach.
‘We don’t have to sit around waiting for other adults or boys to back us up. As long as we support each other, that is enough,’ says Nada Yussuf, highlighting the core message they want to pass on to their students: sisterhood as a driver of change.
Through these workshops, the young women not only learn the technical aspects of audio production — they also train in something equally valuable: finding their voice, building confidence, and understanding that their stories deserve to be heard.
