Fredrik Kjos, of the Moderaterna (M) party, stepped down in April from his position as chair of the municipal council of Upplands-Bro after holding the role for eight years. His departure came in the midst of an investigation carried out by SVT.
However, far from withdrawing from political life, Kjos has now resurfaced in a prominent position: he leads the Moderates’ electoral list ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, ranked above even his own successor in the role, Annika Friberg, also a member of the same party.
His return to the spotlight raises questions about the party’s internal criteria when drawing up candidacies, and about the real weight that political accountability carries in the careers of its members.
